Gavin Francis is the author of eleven books of non-fiction, and writes about medicine, culture, and travel. Adventures in Human Being (2015), was a Sunday Times Bestseller and won Saltire Non-Fiction Book of the Year 2015, was the Observer’s Science Book of the Year. Shapeshifters: On Medicine & Human Change(2018), was a book of the year in the Sunday Times and the Scotsman. His most recent travel book is The Bridge Between Worlds – a Brief History of Connection (2024). He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
